Varia’s IBCP Programme Begins a New Chapter at Koivukylä Campus
This autumn marks a transformative moment for Varia’s International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) as it relocates to Koivukylä Campus. We are welcoming a new cohort of students into a learning environment shaped by innovation, global-mindedness, and personal growth.
New Beginnings: January 2026
On September 29th, the new IBCP group was completed with its final members and began their journey with preliminary studies and the national vocational qualification in wellfare technology. These studies lay the foundation for a rich and purposeful educational experience. In early 2026, students will transition into the IBCP curriculum, embarking on a two-year path that integrates academic rigor with career-related learning.
The programme includes, alongside the Career Relating Studies the IBCP Core components—Personal and Professional Skills, Community Engagement, Reflective Project, and Language and Cultural Studies — as well as two IB Diploma Programme courses. Together, these elements foster a holistic development of students as inquirers, communicators, and principled global citizens.
IB Ideology in Action
At the heart of the IBCP lies the IB mission: to develop active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. Varia’s implementation of the IBCP reflects this mission by combining international education standards with local working life relevance, empowering students to make ethical decisions, engage meaningfully with their communities, and prepare for life beyond school.
The programme encourages students to think critically, reflect on their learning, and apply their knowledge in real-world contexts—skills that are essential in today’s interconnected and rapidly changing world.
Campus Transitions and Future Vision
The move to Koivukylä comes as Myyrmäki Campus is set for demolition, making way for a new comprehensive school and residential development. Koivukylä will serve as the temporary home for the IBCP programme until the completion of The Competence Campus in Tikkurila, projected to be ready by 2029.
This future campus will not only offer state-of-the-art facilities but also enable closer collaboration with Tikkurilan Lukio’s IB Diploma Programme, as both institutions will share the same building and learning spaces—creating a vibrant hub for international education in Vantaa.
Celebrating the Move
To mark the transition, housewarming celebrations with students will take place before Season break in December, once everyone has settled into the new Koivukylä Campus. These festivities will highlight the spirit of community, curiosity, and resilience that defines the IBCP experience at Varia.
